Loch Lomond Rescue Boat were tasked last night 21/05/26 at 20:54 by Police Scotland to attend a multi-agency incident on the River Leven at Balloch following reports of a vessel on fire with a person in the water.

Our crew assembled and launched immediately.

On arrival, the vessel was well alight. It was confirmed that an individual had entered the water from the vessel and self-recovered to the shore, however they could not initially be located.

Our crew worked closely with Police Scotland carrying out enquiries to ensure the individual’s safety while also confirming that no other persons were on board the vessel.

We operated alongside colleagues from Scottish Fire & Rescue Service, Scottish Ambulance Service & HM Coastguard to support the ongoing response. After some time, it was established that the individual had self-presented at hospital.

Our crew remained on scene to provide safety cover and assist firefighters while the incident was brought under control.

Once all agencies were satisfied there was no further risk, we assisted boat owners in moving and securing vessels before standing down and returning to station at 22:44.
